The Department of Turkish Language and Literature, established within the Faculty of Science and Literature at Aydın Adnan Menderes University, started its undergraduate education in the academic year of 1993-1994. In the department, which gave its first graduates in 1997, approximately 250-300 students study each year.
The Department of Turkish Language and Literature, aims to train staff who are qualified to do research in the fields of Turkish language, Turkish literature, Turkish folklore and Turkish culture, to conduct various studies and researches, and to publish them, seminars, etc. It was established to promote the means. Undergraduate students of our department complete the four-year elective and compulsory program and graduate from the Turkish Language and Literature department. Our students who have the opportunity to continue their postgraduate education after graduation in our department can become Turkish Language and Literature teachers in educational institutions, private schools and private teaching institutions under the Ministry of National Education if they take the formation courses required for teaching. In addition, if they are certified, they can find jobs as experts in state archives and libraries or as editors in media organs because they gain important knowledge about Ottoman Turkish, different Turkish dialects, Turkish Literature and Folk Literature during their education.
There are 5 main disciplines: Old Turkish Literature Department, New Turkish Literature Department, Turkish Folk Literature Department, Old Turkish Language Department, New Turkish Language Department, and a master's degree within the Institute of Social Sciences and In our department that accepts students to doctoral programs, 2 professors, 2 associate professors, 4 dr. lecturer, 1 lecturer and 2 dr. There are research assistants and 2 research assistants.
In our department, whose annual undergraduate student quota is 60, the language of instruction is Turkish and the education period is 8 semesters.
The founding head of the Department of Turkish Language and Literature, which started its activities in the academic year of 1993-1994, Prof. Dr. Adnan İNCE. Doç. Dr. Şahin BARANOĞLU and Doç. Dr. Hasan GÜLTEKİN served as department heads. Currently, the head of the department is Prof. Dr. Caner IŞIK.
