Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the warning "Advisor has not approved yet" mean?
This message does not indicate a problem with your course registration. The advisor approval process continues throughout the registration period and does not prevent course selection. Approval is granted after the registration process.
Can I take a different elective or non-departmental elective (NDE) instead of the one I failed?
Yes, it is possible. You may take a different elective/NDE from another semester or grade level, as long as it is of the same type. However, taking a compulsory course instead of an elective or vice versa is not allowed.
Can I take an extra elective course instead of a compulsory course?
No, it is not allowed. According to decisions by the rectorate, faculty, and departments, students who do not fulfill compulsory course requirements cannot graduate. Both total ECTS and the appropriate distribution among compulsory, elective, and NDE courses are required for graduation.
Can I take upper-level courses?
Theoretically yes, but first-year students are not recommended to take upper-level courses. Other students may take up to 45 ECTS per semester. Those who have successfully completed 140 ECTS or more can take up to 50 ECTS.
Can I take my failed courses in future semesters?
Yes, but priority must always be given to failed courses. These must be taken before enrolling in the current semester’s courses.
Why is the section of my failed course not visible?
OBIS shows the courses that need to be retaken, but this does not guarantee that the course is being offered that semester. You must check whether the course is opened and regularly follow the academic schedule.
My compulsory courses overlap. Can the course schedule be changed?
No. The course schedule is centrally prepared by the faculty and cannot be changed by departments. Every effort is made to avoid overlap between courses that should be taken in the same semester. Overlaps usually occur when students take courses from different semesters.
Will new elective courses be opened?
No. The courses shown in OBIS during the registration period reflect the finalized schedule. No additional courses will be opened.
I cannot register for course X. What is the reason?
There may be several reasons: insufficient ECTS, unmet prerequisites, schedule conflict, or incorrect section selection. When you click “register,” a message in the bottom-left corner of the screen will explain the issue.
My registration for a previously added course has been deleted. Why?
You may have mistakenly registered for a section opened for a different department. Carefully read the notes under the course section.
The quota for elective course X is full. Will new slots be opened?
Generally no. Additional slots are not opened unless the quotas of alternative courses are also full. Some courses have intentionally limited quotas. Therefore, it is important to follow the registration schedule and register early.
Is attendance mandatory for course X?
Yes. For all courses taken for the first time or previously failed due to absenteeism (F2), a minimum of 70% attendance is required. This also applies to online courses. Weekly video lectures must be watched within one week of posting. This process is monitored by the Distance Education Coordination Office with no flexibility.
Will course X be offered in summer school?
No summer school will be offered at our university for the 2024–2025 academic year. However, students may take summer school courses at other universities.
I cannot register for a prerequisite course because the exam result is not announced. What should I do?
Make-up exam results may overlap with the registration period. In such cases, registration for prerequisite courses may not be possible. These courses can be added during the add-drop week or via petition during the excuse registration period if needed.
Can I retake a course I have already passed to raise my grade?
Yes. Students can re-register for courses with a D1 grade via OBIS. To retake courses graded C3 or higher, a petition approved by the department and faculty is required. In such cases, the most recent grade will appear on the transcript.
Can I register for courses without paying the tuition fee?
No. Course registration cannot be completed without tuition payment.
What happens if I do not pay the fee for an online/paid section?
These courses will remain in “pre-registration” status until payment is made. If payment is not made within the given period, the course registration will be canceled by the system.
Do I need to register for at least one course during the regular registration period to participate in the add-drop week?
Yes. Students who did not register for any courses during the regular period can only register during the excuse registration period, not the add-drop week.
