Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the warning “Advisor did not approve/give approval” mean?
This statement does not mean that there is a problem with your course registration. The advisor approval process continues throughout the registration period and does not prevent the course registration process. Advisor approval is given after the course registration process.
Can I take a different elective course instead of the elective or non-departmental elective course I took from below?
Yes, it is possible. Instead of elective/BDS courses that could not be taken due to absenteeism or failure, you can take another course of the same type (elective or BDS) from different semesters or classes. However, it is not appropriate to take compulsory courses instead of electives or elective courses instead of BDS.
Can I take an additional elective course instead of a required course?
No, it is not possible. Graduation of students who do not fulfill the compulsory course requirements in accordance with the decisions of the rectorate, dean's office and department is not approved. For graduation, both total ECTS and appropriate credit distribution according to course types are required.
Can I take classes from upperclassmen?
Theoretically yes. However, it is not recommended for first year students to take additional courses. Other students can take up to 45 ECTS courses in a semester. For students who have achieved 140 ECTS or more, this limit is 50 ECTS.
Can I take the courses I failed in the following semesters?
Yes, but priority should always be given to the failed courses. Failed courses should be taken first, and then registered for the relevant semester's courses.
Why is the branch of my previous course not displayed?
In the OBIS system, courses that need to be taken from the previous level are shown; however, this does not guarantee that the course will be opened that semester. It is necessary to check whether the course is opened or not and to follow the curriculum regularly.
The courses I have to take overlap. Can the course schedule be changed?
No. The course schedule is prepared centrally at the faculty level and cannot be changed by the department. When creating the schedule, care is taken to ensure that courses that must be taken in the same term do not overlap. Conflicts usually occur when taking courses from different terms.
Will any other elective courses be offered?
No. The courses seen during the registration period in OBIS reflect the latest version of the program. Additional courses cannot be opened.
I can't register for course X. What is the reason?
There may be various reasons for this: failure to meet ECTS qualifications, failure to meet prerequisites, time conflicts or incorrect branch selection. When you click the "register" button during registration, the error message that appears in the lower left corner of the screen will clarify the situation.
I was removed from a course I registered for before. Why?
You may have accidentally registered to a branch that was opened for another department. You should read the warnings under the branch carefully.
The quota for elective course X is full. Will a new quota be opened?
Generally no. Additional quotas will not be opened until the quotas of the existing alternative courses are filled. In addition, the quotas of some courses are limited. Therefore, the registration calendar should be followed carefully and early registration should be made.
Is it compulsory to attend course X?
Yes. There is a 70% attendance requirement for all courses taken for the first time or failed due to absenteeism (F2). There is also an attendance requirement for courses opened within the scope of distance education and weekly video content must be watched within the first week after publication. This process is monitored by the Distance Education Coordinatorship and no flexibility is allowed.
Will course X be offered in summer school?
There will be no summer school at our university for the 2024-2025 academic year. However, it is possible to take courses from summer school programs of other universities.
I cannot register for the prerequisite course because the exam results have not been announced. What should I do?
Supplemental exam results may conflict with the registration process. In this case, registration for prerequisite courses may not be possible. The courses in question can be taken during add-drop week or, if necessary, during excuse registration week, with a petition.
Can I retake a course I have passed before to improve my grade?
Students can register directly via OBIS for courses with a D1 grade. In order to retake courses with a C3 or higher grade, a petition approved by the department and dean's office is required. In case of a grade increase, the last grade received will be reflected in the transcript.
Can I register for classes without paying tuition?
No. Course registration cannot be completed without paying the fee.
What happens if I don't pay the remote/paid branch fee?
Registration for such courses remains in "pre-registration" status until payment is made. If payment is not made within the specified time, the registration for the relevant course will be deleted from the system.
In order to register for a course during add-drop week, is it necessary to have registered for at least one course during the regular registration period?
Yes. Students who have not registered for any courses during the regular registration period can register only during the make-up registration period, not during the add-drop week.
