The department was founded in 1992 as the Soil Science and Plant Nutrition Divisions. Spesific education on soil science and plant nutrition has been given as undergraduate level since 1999-2000 and MSc graduate level since 2003-2004, at finally PhD graduate level since 2009-2010 academic year.
The purpose of the Department of Soil Science and Plant Nutrition is conducting researches to solve the problems related to the agricultural production and the soil of the country and the region and also to train Soil Science and Plant Nutrition specialists that equipped with contemporary knowledge, absorbed the work issues and related with the realities of the country´s agriculture.
Since the Department was founded various research projects have been carried out and completed in order to evaluate agricultural problems of the region. Studies,meetings and seminars are organised for the proper use of agricultural land and good agricultural practices where emphasis is given on right use of fertilizers and nutrient manegament. Furthermore, our staff take part in national and international meetings, congress and panels contribute to way out agricultural problems and share new information with the concerned parties.
Our research projects were supported by national and international institutions, organizations and non-governmental organizations such as TUBITAK, Adnan Menderes University Scientific Research Project Commission.
